Former Factory, Heathhall, Dumfries

Dumfries and Galloway

Situated in Heathhall, Dumfries this former factory was first constructed in 1913 and served as the Arrol-Johnston car factory and was subsequently used to produce aircraft and aircraft components during World War 1. In the late 1920s the factory won the contract to re-body Captain Malcolm Campbell’s ‘Bluebird’ in preparation for an attempt to break the World Land Speed Record. Car production ceased and the factory was closed in 1931.

In the mid-1940s the factory site was acquired by the North British Rubber Company and laterally became part of the Gates Rubber Company with rubber products being produced there for a number of years.

In 2002 the factory was sold to Interfloor and was used in the production of carpet underlay products until it's closure in 2013.

The factory has since lain empty and has been the subject of a fire in 2021.

The factory has gone through the Trawl process with no interest being noted from any public bodies. The relevant Local Authority now has 3 months from the end of the Trawl process to notify the KLTR if they are interested in taking ownership of the property.
