KLTR transfers land to the City of Edinburgh Council for affordable housing

The KLTR has transferred a small but important piece of land to the City of Edinburgh Council to use as an access road for an affordable housing development.

The King's and Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer (KLTR) have transferred a leftover strip of land from a housing development off Leith Walk. This will allow The City of Edinburgh Council (CEC)  to create an access road for a proposed affordable housing project.

CEC approached the KLTR about the land on Halmyre Street, to the north west of the city centre, when they discovered that the previous owner of the land was a dissolved company. It was used as a pilot case for the new Ownerless Property Transfer Scheme. After discussions, an agreement was made for KLTR to transfer the property directly to the Local Authority at cost recovery value. The transfer concluded on 28th August 2024.

This is yet another example, following the recent transfer to Falkirk Council of the Former Royal Hotel Slamannan, of how the Ownerless Property Transfer Scheme (OPTS) can be used in the public interest by local authorities.
